When the cards are handed out, the total value of the hands are tallied. The goal of the game is to get a hand with a total value equal to nine, or as close as it can get to nine. The picture cards – King, Queen and Jack – as well as the 10 card all have a value of 0. Ace has a value of one, while the value of the other cards is equal to their face value. If the total value of the hand exceeds nine, the second digit of the hand’s value is what is considered. For example, if a player has a three and a four, the total value of his hand is seven. If his hand is made of a nine and a six, the total value of the hand is 15. However, in this case, only the second digit is considered so the actual value of the hand is just five.
The player may or may not draw a third card depending on the value of his/her hand. The player “stands” (may not draw a third card) if the value of his/her hand falls between six and nine. He/she may get a third card if the value of the hand is lower than five or a 10.
The banker/dealer draws a third card only when the player decides to draw a third card. And even if the player gets a third card, the banker/dealer gets to have a third card only on certain conditions.
The banker draws if:
The total value of his/her first two cards is three while the player’s third card has a value of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, or 10.
The total value of his/her first two cards is four while the player’s third card has a value of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7.
The total value of his/her first two cards is five while the player’s third card has a value of 4, 5, 6, or 7.
The total value of his/her first two cards is six while the player’s third card has a value of six or seven.
If the banker’s first two cards have a total value less than two, he/she always draws. If the total value of his/her first two cards is a 7,8 or 9, he/she always stands.
6.If the player wins, those who bet on him/her will win 2:1. If the banker/dealer wins, those who bet on him/her will win 2:1 minus the 5% house commission (because the banker wins most of the time). If it is a tie, those who bet on a tie will get their bets eightfold.
